Sam M is excellent. Not only is he accurate, but he is very perceptive and quick to point out the key developments in the races. Not true of Ken W, who often is very late to notice things (see, e.g, Rainbow Blue breaking in the Mistletoe Shalee final on Hambo day . .took him forevever to point out what we all saw). Sam M won't just blurt out automatically that the horse second over is getting the "golden trip" if the hrose first up is a longshot or one who is obviously soon going to be going backwards. In other words, he is able to read and analyze the progrem, knows each horse's strengths and weaknesses, and is thus able to call the race accordingly.

His call of the 2008 Pace was a classic, not only for its accuracy and excitement, but also for its perceptiveness. Rember when he said "Art Official, stretching out SBSW . . ." This was a sophisticated comment because it demonstrated that, even though SBSW was 1-9 and that he just cleared two horses who went 51 and a piece, Sam M saw what was going on on the track --anmely that Art Official was not done even though SBSW cleared. You knew right then that you were going to see a slugfest in the stretch. I think most racecallers would have missed that extra step or two that it took SBSW to clear.
